Proximity cards store different data and how that data is retrieved is different from reader to reader. In order to use the “pcProx” by RF IDeas readers, they must first be configured for the ISU Card. Once properly configured, the reader will work with any machine capable of using a USB plug-and-play keyboard.
rf IDEAS® Configuration Utility
Connect Your pcProx Device
Once you’ve installed and started the configuration utility, ensure that the Connection Type is set to "USB" then select "Connect" from the top menu. If you have more than one device connected, you will need to select the one you wish to configure from the Device List. These instructions are written only for USB keyboard emulation devices.

Timing
The timing settings are okay at the default values. However, most computers can handle a much faster key transfer and need much less of a delay between keystrokes. Lowering these numbers will give you a much faster response time. If you notice that the interface appears to be missing keystrokes, you can increase these values closer to their defaults. The fields that can be changed are shown in red.
Card Data Hold Time | 950 msec |
Continuous Read | _ unchecked |
Lock-Out Time for Repet. | 950 msec |
Key Press Time | 8 msec |
Key Release Time | 8 msec |

Data Format
Go to the Data Format tab and set the following values for the Wiegand Keystroke Data Format fields. The values in Advanced Settings can be left at their default values. The fields that need changed are shown in red.
Strip Leading Bit Count | 3 |
Strip Trailing Bit Count | 1 |
Send FAC | On |
Send FAC as Hex | _ unchecked |
Send ID | On |
Send ID as Hex | _ unchecked |
ID Field Bit Count | 20 |
Fix Length FAC / ID Fields | On |
FAC Digits | 4 |
ID Digits | 7 |

Delimiters
Go to the Delimiters tab and set the format of the data transmitted. The only thing that should need to be changed from default is the FAC / ID Delimiter. It needs to be set to a dash (-).
Pre-Data Delimiters | none |
FAC / ID Delimiter | - (the DASH key) |
Post-Data Delimiters | none |
Termination Keystroke | <ENTER> |
Card Gone Delimiter | none |
To change a delimiter value, click on the button below the FAC / ID Delimiter field.

A keyboard emulator will appear, make sure to deselect the shift key (with your mouse), select the dash key (again with your mouse) and then click the [Insert] button. Important: You must deselect the [Shift] key, otherwise you will get an UNDERSCORE (_) delimiter instead of the DASH (-) that is needed.

Write the Settings
Once you’ve completed all of the settings, select Write Settings from the top menu bar. This will update your device with the settings you’ve changed.

Test the Settings
At the bottom of the utility is a test area. You must first write the settings before you can test them. With your device connected, point your mouse in this area and test your reader with an ISU Card.
You should get a result that looks like: 0048-0001357

This is just an example. The last seven digits shown here (0001357) will be different for your ISU Card. The format should start with the facility ID (0048), followed by a dash (-), a zero-padded 7-digit ID (0001357 in this example), and finally an <Enter> keypress which should put your cursor on a new line.
Make sure your tests match this format. In particular, the subtle difference between a dash delimiter (-) and an underscore delimiter (_) is important and often missed. This is defined in the Delimiters section.
You should be able to move your card away from the reader and then return it a moment later for another read. This is what it should look like (with your ID number) after a few tests.
